Eyes at the beach
Getting to Draper Lake a little later than usual, there didn't appear to be critter activity going on so I sat down on a sandy point and watched the tannin stained water. The color of the fresh lake water is hard to explain in words because it is at the same time stained and crystal clear. I decided to just enjoy the amber water playing with the sunlight. It felt nice to sit there with my feet in the sand, the sun warm on my back.
I saw a little crab starting toward me in the shallow water and zoomed in on him hoping to get a good shot without his noticing me. He didn't see me at first because I was on the bank and he was watching what was in front of him but when I moved just a little, he saw my shadow move in the water, then looked at me and stopped. We watched each other for awhile. He wanted to go past me but was deliberating on whether or not that was a smart move.
He decided to go for it and moved forward cautiously. Then I moved a little trying to focus on him and took my off him for a split second and he was gone.
But not really. He had just hunkered down into the sand, his eyes sticking out watching me. It was cute. We kept watching each other for some minutes and then I took my eyes off him just for another split second and he was up out of the sand. Fully exposed now, he watched me for another minute or so and then moved by me, on to whatever important task needed his attention. Satisfied with the little crab encounter, I moved on too.
It is always good at the beach.
