November in South Walton
This weekend has been great. After picking up a birthday gift from the airport, we did a little shopping and then just enjoyed the beautiful weather; bright blue sky and cool dry temps. Later, after a glass of wine and an appetizer at the Wine World in Watercolor, we walked past the butterfly garden, to attend the Telluride Mountain Film Festival. Yep, a Mountain Film Festival on the beaches of 30A. They have been sharing their films with us for many years and the film festival was great fun. Sitting out on the grassy lawn, blankets over our legs with jackets wrapped tight, the chilly evening was beautiful. Starry skies sparkled over the pine trees that were up lit in festive colors, the pine trees framing the outdoor screen prettily. Starting with the movie "Bag It" we were persuaded to take even a closer look at what we could do to reduce our carbon footprint. They were preaching to the choir with us in the audience but you can always do more to be a better person, the movie gave us additional reasons about the wisdom of trying. The second half of the evening showcased extreme sports. After seeing a boy with one leg climb Mt Kilimanjaro with crutches, you could not possibly complain anymore about anything, at least for 15 minutes or so. And the film on the rock climber who used a parachute as a safety net made me a little queasy.
Saturday morning it was off to the Farmers Market for some veggies and honey. We also tasted pear chutney and I got some more seeds. Why not, I'm not completely frustrated by gardening yet. The selection is getting better and better at our Farmers Market. Small in quantity, they are loyal and local, you gotta love them for getting out there every Saturday.
The afternoon was spent at Tops'l State Park learning a little more about Dune Lakes and the endangered little mouse that helps keep the dunes in place. Sunday morning started with a walk in the State Forest, followed by lunch at the Red Bar (Duke made an appearance with Dred Clampett), and we ended the weekend watching the Sunset go down over the Gulf of Mexico. Not bad.
Not bad at all.
