Morning Glory

To stabilize the sand on the beach side of their homes, beachfront owners are taking their cue from nature by replanting what had been previously fashionable to tear out...ground cover. I have seen the white "beach morning glory" used. In spite of it's hardy disposition it is visually delicate but what seems to be in vogue is the purple "railroad vine". My guess is this beautiful vine is a faster grower than it's white cousin. It is resilient against salt, heat and wind and the bright purple blossom and strong green leaves are striking against the white sand. The vine is a good plant sends down roots at nodes along it's runners which is why, I guess, it was named railroad vine. It's worth getting up to see in the morning light.

Today was a perfect day to walk the beach. I highly recommend walks at 7 or 8 am. Lovely.
