WOW

We did it: We got through 2008 and I'm looking forward to 2009..."cautiously optimistic" I believe is the phrase. I know 2009 is not a magic number that will make everything better but it is a new year with a lot of exciting things to look forward to. Here's why:

Since our local real estate market experienced unnaturally high appreciation levels in a very concentrated amount of time we also experienced a faster decline compared to other places in the country...resort areas tend to lead the up or down cycle. Since we have been in a recession like state longer than most places maybe where we are now is an indicator that the downward part of the cycle is slowing and a healthy normal is within sight! Bruce tells me there was an increase in sales along the 30A corridor in 2008 compared to 2007...read his end of the year report and his take on where we are in the real estate cycle at http://www.bluewaverealty.net/ .

It also feels like even though it will take some time, we could be on the precipice of a new direction on a number of different levels. It is clear that we as a nation have been in the energy dark-ages for some time now. There is every indication that our energy future will be much different than our past. It certainly appears that the entrepreneurial spirit the country is known for is about to be unleashed again. New ideas are back in vogue and this will spark new industries, new jobs, and new opportunities. All this activity in the long-run, should be very healthy. Getting back to the basics of conserving our resources, eating healthier foods and being aware of our actions can only be good, good, and more good.

So Happy New Year. Here's to all of us!

P.S. My lettuce bed is already sprouting so that's a good sign too.

  2. The lettuce is fine. So are the strawberries and the onions. I covered them with a sort of cap every night.
