Blue Wave Living
You can't have a conversation about the Beaches of South Walton without talking about 2 things: The beaches and real estate. Bruce and I have been living here for six years and we've seen both rock and roll. The good news for buyers of course is prices have come down and there is plenty to buy. We see sales happening at the very high end (people buying spending at well over a million+) and the very low (people taking advantage of the market by buying real estate owned properties and short sales and property that is pretty much "priced to sell"). You can look at property for sale from our website: www.bluewaverealty.net and we hope you do but if you do it will probably be because of the most important reason people talk about this area and that is the beach. We have 12 "Blue Wave Beaches" along the part of scenic road 30A that we live on. To be rated a "blue wave beach" you have to comply with 33 points of criteria for resort beaches and 27 points of criteria for rural beaches http://cleanbeaches.org/bluewave/criteria.cfm. Mostly the rating seems to be about measuring the cleanliness of the water and checking that the setting remains as natural as possible. I bring up the blue wave rating because with all the craziness going on in the financial and political world it's easy to get wrapped up in the scary stuff on a daily, if not hourly basis. So right now, I'm making myself a promise in front of everyone to make sure I go down to the waves at the very least once a week to let the blue waves "wash me clean". It's an honor to have these beaches so close to us. We walk in the state forest almost everyday but it seems like we have gotten so used to having the beaches nearby that we can go two weeks without a blue wave encounter. Gotta get to work on my priorities.
