Community

Just a note on community. Our family has been in Blue Mountain Beach for 6 years now and during most of that time, the talk of the town was primarily about the real estate market. It really was the only topic of conversation. Lately I've noticed a lot of conversations have turned to something much healthier and more lasting: creating community. The Back To Nature event sponsored by SWCC and it's new this year Family Fun Day, (organized by Chandra Hartman with SWELL), was great fun. It was a healthy mix of locals and a sprinkling of visitors for a kind of "organic" 30A experience. And kudos to Seaside for hosting the Big Blue Bash. No matter your politics, that was a fun community event with amazing music and camaraderie. The whole weekend felt kind of, well, wholesome to me. While both events had an "agenda" it is notable that both were put together primarily as a volunteer effort. The CAA has also been more visable to me lately. I'm so glad to get frequent email reminders of local art happenings. I plan to check out the Art Bar at Redfish Village next weekend to see what that is like.
